I’m Not Interested

Lately I had a guy approach me about a home based business in making money by having someone pay their bills through my business and I receive 10% on each payment. I told him I wasn’t interested but was wondering what kind of business it was seeing I’ve done home based businesses before. I guess that opened the door for him to try to give me his sales pitch. After about five minutes I had to tell him kindly I wasnt interested in his product, I was only interested in who he was and what he was doing.

I think the same goes when we try to tell people about Christ. Most times their not interested in our product. They may only be interested in us and what we do. It may be a cliché but the saying is true: folks don’t care about how much you know till they know how much you care. I wanted to save a guy just the other day from a woman at the Career Center because she stopped him simply to ask him about his “eternal fortitude.” Really?

You know that door-to-door salesman that you hear knocking on the door and you tell everyone to quieten down so not to make a sound and maybe he’ll go away. Yeah, that’s how folks feel about us christians.

Trying to give a sales pitch about our “product”, Christianity, can be pushy. Most of the time this is done by our legalism to put others under our laws. How about relationship building? It’s possible you could be more effective and successful leading folks to Christ if you start with who you are and what you do. Let them decide if their interested. Let Jesus draw them. You water or plant but growth doesn’t depend on you. Start living the truth.
